Friends of Christian Bautista, the man who was shot and killed Saturday night in Reedley, made a small memorial in the same spot they lost their friend.
“It hasn’t set in, I just feel like I could call him right now and he’s gonna come over,” says Carlos Moreno, Bautista’s friend.
He says they were cleaning up from a barbecue when the shooting happened around 11 p.m.
“It was just a pop and from there I went to his aid. I tried doing CPR, I couldn’t do anything, I couldn’t do anything, I hate to say it like that because I mean I wish I could be the person to save him,” Moreno says.
Moreno and other close friends called Bautista a brother. “He was everything you wanted in a friend, brave, loyal always there when you needed him,” Matthew Sharp said.
This wasn’t the first shooting of night. Hours before, just a few blocks over on East Springfield Avenue, police say two men were shot while inside their garage.
Those who live in the area say the two men were friends of another person who lives at the home. They are both in stable condition.
It’s unclear if the two shootings are related, but police say both have gang ties.
