MERCED, California – Officers were investigating after a woman was shot in Merced on Friday morning, the Merced Police Department said.
Around 5:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 100 Block of east Main Street in response to a shooting.
When they arrived in the area, they located a victim who had a gunshot wound to her upper torso, police said.
Paramedics arrived at the scene to provide medical assistance to the victim.
She was transported to a hospital in Stanislaus County to receive medical treatment.
Police determined that the suspects involved had left the area before officers arrived at the scene.
Detectives are conducting the investigation.
The victim reported that before the shooting, she looked outside her residence and saw an unidentified person breaking the window of her vehicle, police said. The victim went outside and confronted the suspect, trying to stop the suspect from breaking into her vehicle.
It was at that time that another suspect, who was in the yard of the residence, shot the victim, police said.
Later on after police had left the scene, there was a drive-by shooting at the same house – around 9:15 a.m.
Police said no one was hurt in that shooting.
