FRESNO, California (KSEE/KGPE) – A Fresno man was arrested Wednesday evening for carjacking a woman in north Fresno who was filling the air in her van’s tires, Fresno police said.
Officers stopped a van in the area of Blackstone and Barstow avenues around 5:30 p.m. after they saw it driving erratically and nearly causing a collision after cutting off another vehicle, Sgt. Glen Schafer said. They identified the driver as Isidro Valencia, 26, of Fresno.
He was found to be on parole with the California Department of Corrections and was unlicensed, Schafer said. The officers were contacted by witnesses who saw Valencia rob the van they stopped from a woman.
Witnesses and the victim told officers that Valencia approached the victim at a gas station at Blackstone and Barstow avenues, and said he wanted to help her, Schafer said. He demanded her car keys then took off in her van.
The victim’s van was returned to her undamaged, Schafer said. Valencia was taken into custody and later booked into the Fresno County Jail for carjacking, violating parole and several traffic violations.
