Two men were arrested by Visalia Police officers, and one of them allegedly tried to run down an officer.

Wednesday afternoon, officers attempted to stop a wrong way driver at Kloth Drive and Ashland Avenue. The driver didn’t stop and turned into a cul-de-sac, a news release says.

The passenger hopped out, police say, and fled on foot but was quickly caught. An officer approached the car and the driver allegedly charged toward the officer.

The car struck the officer’s arm, police say, but he was not injured.

The vehicle reached speeds up to 80 mph, failing to stop at an intersection. He drove through a fence and stalled in a field.

The driver, Eduardo Galeana Mendoza, 26, ran from the vehicle, but was caught by an officer. He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon (vehicle) on the officer, felony evading and resisting arrest. The passenger, Kevin Esquibel, 20, was arrested for allegedly resisting arrest and a felony warrant.

Both were booked at the Tulare County Jail.
