You can see illegal fireworks being shot off all over the city

Fire officials in Mendota seized more than 450 pounds of illegal fireworks, just days ahead of July 4th.

The seizure comes after a complaint by a concerned person, worrying someone was selling illegal fireworks from their car.

Mendota Police, Calfire and Fresno Co. Fire were able to track down the person they say is responsible for selling the fireworks and confiscate them.

They are estimated to worth more than $7,500.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind the public how important it is for everyone to keep their eyes open for suspicious activity and report it to authorities. These illegal fireworks could have unnecessarily started a fire, hurt someone and/or caused damage to someone’s house or property.

Seth Brown, Calfire/Fresno Co. Fire spokesperson

He adds, “Near the 4th of July, far more U.S. fires are reported than on any other day, and fireworks account for two out of five of those fires, more than any other cause of fires.”
