FRESNO, California (KSEE/KGPE) – A 20-year-old Fresno man was stabbed and killed at a southeast Fresno gas station just after midnight Saturday.
Isaiah Casillas is identified as the stabbing victim at Fastrip on Clinton and Chestnut avenues, according to a news release from Fresno Police Lt. David Madrigal.
Police say the suspect was arrested.
We spoke with a man who was there at the time is all happened.
Ryan McKelligott tells us he was working at one of the local businesses nearby, when he says he heard what sounded like a fight outside.
“One moment I was looking and I heard a lot of commotion, the next moment I was looking, he was on the ground and he was in shock,” he said.
McKelligott recalling a deadly stabbing that took the life of Casillas.
“This is where it happened, I was looking over there where my car is still parked and I had seen the kid shaking on the ground and then moments later he wasn’t moving,” McKelligott explained.
Police say it happened just after midnight, the motive unclear.
Investigators say Casillas worked at a local restaurant and is not a gang member.
McKelligott says he was nearby, when he says the suspect, who he says appeared to be homeless, was fighting with Casillas.
McKelligott says he did not see the actual stabbing, but says there was a man with Casillas at the time he was stabbed.
“He was screaming his name like Isaiah please say anything like this wasn’t supposed to happen,” he said.
McKelligott says his friends tried to help Casillas out. He says they even flagged down a police officer.
Police say Casillas was transported to Community Regional Medical Center but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
McKelligott says Casillas’s girlfriend showed up to the scene shocked, in disbelief.
“It was her birthday in fact, and that’s her boyfriend, she lost her loved one on her birthday, we all said a silent prayer for her,” he expressed.
Police this was not gang related. They say Casillas’s family is taking this really hard because his mother died just a few years ago.
Police are still looking for additional information.
