A man in southeast Fresno was shot at while standing outside of his apartment Thursday night, Fresno police say.

Just before 7 p.m., officers responded to the 4000 block of East University Avenue regarding a shooting, Lt. Bill Dooley says.

When officers arrived, they were contacted by the victim who told them that he was standing outside his apartment smoking a cigarette when a vehicle drove up to him.

Words were exchanged between he and the driver, and then the driver suddenly pulled out a gun and fired several shots at him.

The suspect then drove quickly away from the scene, Dooley says.

The victim, who was not injured, found bullet holes in the back of his vehicle.

Officers are canvassing the area looking for additional witnesses and detectives are on scene.
