Man shot and killed in southwest Fresno. A search for the suspect is underway

A man was shot and killed in southwest Fresno Thursday night, according to Fresno Police.

Three to five shots were heard around 9 p.m. near Plumas and Atchison streets, according to Lt. Larry Bowlan with the Fresno Police Department.

Upon arrival, officers found the man unconscious on the sidewalk.

The victim, an unidentified Hispanic man in his twenties, was shot once in the upper torso, Bowlan says.

After emergency aide was performed on the man, he was transported to Community Regional Medical Center where he died.

An abandoned vehicle was located near the scene of the homicide, but officers are unsure who it belongs to.

Bowlan says it is unknown if the shooting is gang-related.

The area will be on lock down until early Friday morning as officers search the area for a suspect and evidence of the shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Fresno Police Department at 559-621-7000.
