TULARE COUNTY, California – Porterville Police Department detectives are investigating an overnight homicide at a bar.

It happened just after midnight at The Mecca, on Main Street, according to a news release. Callers reported a person was shot and he was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.

The victim is identified as Esteban Diaz, 32, of Porterville.

Witnesses say the suspect walked up behind the victim and shot him. That’s when the suspect allegedly fled the bar, police say.

Search warrants led detectives to find 17 guns, including handguns, rifles, and assault rifles. Hundreds of rounds of ammunition along with cocaine, a ballistic vest, ski masks, and gloves were also found.

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to call the Porterville Police Department and ask to speak with Cpl. Rose Gurule at 559-782-7400.
