A 42-year-old substitute teacher in Madera County is accused of having a sexual relationship with a student, according to the sheriff’s office.

On May 7, deputies were notified by the superintendent of Chawanakee Unified School District regarding an allegation of a sexual relationship between a female substitute teacher and a student at a local high school.

The student provided a statement and the investigation was initiated by the sheriff’s office. Detectives learned there was “probable cause” to support the allegations.

“Evidence obtained indicates that the suspect had a relationship of a sexual nature with a minor student outside of CUSD property,” the sheriff’s office says.

Amanda Wood of Madera was arrested Thursday, and booked in at the Madera County Department of Corrections on suspicion of multiple felony charges.
