Investigation underway of deputy-involved shooting in Modesto next to a park


A man is in critical condition after a deputy-involved shooting Thursday afternoon in Modesto.

At around 1:15 p.m., Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies were conducting a follow-up on a car jacking and robbery case in the area of Carver Road and Teresa Street.

They contacted three suspects in the investigation and for unknown reasons at least one of the suspects was believed to be armed, and a deputy-involved shooting broke out, according to a Modesto Police Department news release, the agency handling the investigation.

The suspect who was shot was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The deputies involved were not injured in the shooting, the department confirms.

The shooting happened next to Garrison Park.
