Hanford teacher arrested on charges of assaulting a student, police say


A Hanford teacher was arrested on Monday on charges of assaulting a student, the Hanford Police Department said Thursday.

Around 8 a.m., officers of the Hanford Police Department School Resource Officer Unit received information regarding an allegation of child abuse that occurred at Lee Richmond School. 

An investigation was launched regarding an underage minor victim suffering injuries at the hands of a teacher’s, police said.

As a result of the investigation, officers arrested Melissa Ediger, 44, of Hanford, on charges of child abuse and intimidating/dissuading a witness.

Ediger was booked into the Kings County Jail.

The school district, their staff and witnesses fully cooperated with the the investigation, police said.
