Gang member likely connected to recent Fresno violence arrested at Motel 6

FRESNO, California – “One less shooting, one less victim,” remarked Fresno Police Lt. Tim Tietjen Friday night after officers arrested a recently released, armed ex-convict at a Motel 6.

At around 6 p.m. near Blackstone and Ashlan avenues, officers took into custody a gang member who served three years in prison for weapons charges, Tietjen says. He was only out for 5 days.

Parole officers surveilled the area for reports of the man in the motel armed. They called Fresno Police for back up, and took him into custody.

He was found with a loaded gun, Tietjen says.

This gang operation is part of a recent gang crackdown in connection to several recent shootings, including a deadly 4th of July gathering.

The suspect is reportedly part of East Lane Crips gang, possibly responsible for the recent violence throughout the city.

Tietjen warns gang members: “We’re going to find you, we’re going to arrest you.”

This gun marks one of seven illegal firearms seized this week, Tietjen adds.
