Fresno Police identify man fatally stabbed near downtown Fresno

FRESNO, California – Fresno police said 32-year-old Matthew Chavez died from multiple stab wounds.

Police said Chavez is not a gang member and was not involved in any criminal activity during the attack.

Chavez was stabbed to death near downtown Fresno on Friday, the Fresno Police Department said.

The call came in around 11:30 a.m. about a man who was stabbed in the 200 block of north Blackstone Avenue.

He was transported to Community Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police say he was stabbed right outside of a business called Turning Point.

The Police Department is asking anyone with information to call 559-621-7000.
