Fresno PD: Robbers are stealing gaming consoles after social media meet ups

FRESNO, California – The Fresno Police Department is warning of two men posing as potential game console buyers, only to rob the seller in northwest Fresno.

Fresno Police Lt. David Madrigal says there’s been an uptick in robberies near Marks and Alamos avenues. This has happened at least four times recently, he says.

In each case, the victim is selling a gaming console through social media. The suspects respond asking to meet, and when they do, they allegedly ask to inspect the console, tell them they are taking it, and brandish a gun.

Below are the suspect descriptions:

Suspect No. 1:

  • Hispanic male
  • 15 to 20 years old
  • 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, medium build

Suspect No. 2:

  • Black male
  • 15 to 20 years old
  • 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, larger build

Fresno PD says those who utilize social media to sell items to remain cautious and to utilize a marked exchange zone located at one of the five police substations. Each location is marked, well-lit, and is video recorded.

The Fresno Police Department is asking for help with identifying the suspects involved. If anyone has information regarding the robbery series, you can remain completely anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 559-498-STOP or contact Det. Amada Galaviz at 559-621-7000.
