A Fresno man was arrested Monday after police say he stole the front seat out of an SUV, put it in a wagon, and rode away on a bicycle.

Detectives from the Career Criminal Auto Theft Team (CCATT) located a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse parked in the area of Clay Avenue and Bond Street in east-central Fresno.

The Chevrolet was a reported stolen vehicle out of northeast Fresno, so detectives began surveillance.

During the surveillance, a man entered the vehicle and removed the driver’s seat. He loaded the seat into a red wagon and began riding his bicycle away from the area, police said.

When detectives approached, the suspect abandoned the bicycle and fled on foot.

After a search of the area, he was taken into custody.

The front passenger seat was also located in a nearby alley.

The suspect was identified as gang member Gregory Palacios, 31, of Fresno, police said.

Palacios was booked into the Fresno County Jail on felony chop shop and auto theft related charges.
