MADERA, California (KGPE) — Madera Police put their latest suspected DUI driver on blast on Facebook after arresting him Thursday night. The video shows suspect Hector Salgado wasn’t even able to stand upright without an officer’s help.
Three drivers we spoke to about the video said everyone needs to be vigilant in order to stop drunk driving.
Calls to dispatch alerted police to Salgado’s driving, leading officers to a parking lot off Tozer and Yosemite avenues. When they found him, he was covered in vomit and he had an open beer in the car. There also was a passenger inside.
After a little questioning, Salgado handed his phone to the passenger before stepping out of the car. When he did, he stumbled over.
When Debbie Sumpter watched the video, she said it’s great people called it in — but she’s disappointed anybody let him drive in the first place.
“There was just more than that passenger, I’m sure, that saw him get in [that car],” she said.
After showing this to Ryan Ausmus, who had just moved to Madera four days ago, he said he’s lost two friends to drunk driving.
“I’ve had barbecues, people come over and they have a beer or two — I’ll take their keys. It doesn’t matter to me,” he said.
Dustin Rodgers has seen the deadly results of DUI’s when he was a tow truck driver in Porterville for seven years. He said videos, like the ones Madera Police posts on Facebook, are needed.
“Show the community what happens on a daily basis. Show people what can happen, I don’t think [this video] is the worst of it. I think they should show these accidents that can happen because of something like this,” Rodgers said.
This isn’t Salgado’s first DUI arrest. Police say in the last three years he’s been arrested for DUI three times.
