A 53-year-old man died six days after being found in an alleyway in Fresno County, the sheriff’s office confirmed Wednesday.

Ernesto Hernandez of Fresno passed away in the hospital on March 2, and his death has been ruled a homicide.

He was first found around 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 24 by someone passing by an alleyway located off Mayfair Boulevard between Normal Avenue and Norris Drive West. He was reported to have injuries by the man who found him.

Due to the severity of his injuries, hospital staff notified law enforcement.

At this time, the sheriff’s office says it’s unknown who is responsible for injuring Hernandez and the reason for it. Detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify any person or vehicle that may be associated with this crime.
