25-year-old man shot in the hip while living inside his van, Fresno Police say

A 25-year-old man was shot in central Fresno Wednesday morning, police say.

It happened at Thesta Street and Webster Avenue around around 9 a.m.

The man was inside his van parked outside of a home, and was shot in the hip, according to Lt. Mark Hudson with the Fresno Police Department. The victim is said to have family in the neighborhood.

He says the victim was sitting in or possibly sleeping in this van near his family’s house when he was shot.

“He was the only one struck while inside this van when the shooter drove up or walked up and shot while he was sitting in this van,” Hudson says.

He has been taken to Community Regional Medical Center and is listed in critical condition.

A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, says she saw the victim inside the van just before shots rang out. She says, “Well I was leaving and I heard the three gunshots and I looked at my phone and saw it was almost 9 a.m. and I had a feeling it was him.”

She adds, “It makes me feel sad you know because he has a mom and he has family that probably cares about him.”

Police say the victim was the only person in the van at the time of the shooting, but a small dog was pulled out of the van. It did not appear to be hurt.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Fresno Police Department at 559-621-7000.
