Coroner identifies 16-year-old stabbed in central Fresno

FRESNO, California – The Fresno County coroner has identified the 16-year-old stabbed in central Fresno as Steve Stone of Fresno.

A disturbance at a Central Fresno market turns deadly when a 16-year old boy is stabbed multiple times.

Fresno Police responded to the scene near Millbrook and Olive Avenues after 5 p.m. Tuesday evening. The disturbance inside the market moved outside, where police say a 16-year-old boy and 32-year-old man were stabbed several times. Witnesses told police there were “several juveniles fighting.”

Police say both victims ran to a nearby apartment complex. Both were transported to CRMC, the 32-year-old sustained non-life threatening injuries, the 16-year-old died.

Geneva Morales says her brother is the 32-year-old victim, and her son’s best friend was the 16-year-old victim.

“He was a great kid, straight-A student at McLane High School,” Morales said. “My son is heartbroken, my son is devastated, because that was his best friend.”

Police are reviewing surveillance video to try and identify the suspects.

Police have not yet released a motive, and are working to determine if the stabbing was gang-related.
