The community is rallying to help a father of four — who is now a widower. Elesandro Flores just laid his wife to rest on Saturday but he’s back working at job number two, providing for his four girls as a single dad.
Elesandro Flores is doing his best, coping with the toughest loss of his life while remaining a rock for his family. On October 24, Flores rushed his pregnant wife Charlene to CRMC when she complained about severe pain. As nurses looked after her, Charlene asked her husband to go home and make sure their three children got to school on time but when Flores returned — the situation had become dire.
“When the doctor was talking to me, you hear like a cold blue,” said Flores.
Charlene came into the pregnancy with heart issues now undergoing an emergency C-section. Panic came over Flores before the doctor broke the news.
“Comes back in and says your wife has passed but your daughter’s doing well and recovering,” said Flores.
Charlene Flores passed away at 27 but left behind Quinn Nevaeh Flores — a premature newborn miracle.
Since then it’s been Flores, a single dad of four working as a custodian for the Fresno Unified School District and overnight as a server at Denny’s with the impossible task of replacing Charlene who he’s always missing.
“Hearing her voice you know? And know when I’m coming home to her or saying ‘are you hungry babe?’ Any little thing she gave,” said Flores.
On Monday, 20 percent of Denny’s proceeds from 4 P.M. to 10 P.M. are donated to the Flores family. $25,000 has been raised for them via GoFundMe. Flores says Charlene is watching over him.
“I’d like to think that she was between heaven and earth just guiding everybody and telling everybody to support my husband,” said Flores.
