Club One Casino wants to expand to old Gottschalks building in Downtown Fresno

The Club One Casino in Downtown Fresno plans on expanding it’s operations. The casino wants to buy the vacant Gottschalks building off Fulton Street and the spiral parking structure next door. Those properties are owned by the City of Fresno, and it would be a sale of $1.7 million dollars.

Club One’s current location has been at Van Ness and Tulare since 2010.

Sondra Brown is a patron, and said, “I like the fact that they’re like kind of a homey feeling, and like, it’s kinda my second home.”

Brown is a regular, but she said the building is a little dated.

“Little makeover don’t hurt nobody!” laughed Brown.

Lucky for her, the casino plans on moving out and starting anew in the vacant Gottschalk’s building down the street. They also want to buy the adjacent spiral parking lot. Both structures are owned by the City of Fresno.

Mayor Lee Brand, “We will get $1.7 million dollars, and that would be available for the general fund.”

Brand said Club One’s expansion adds to the revitalization efforts of Downtown Fresno.

“By the time they do all the improvements inside for the new casino and restaurant and new entertainment venue and also the improvements to the garage, they’re probably looking at an investment of about 25 million dollars,” stated Brand.

Club One officials were unavailable for an interview on Tuesday. But according to the city, they plan on renovating the two floors and mezzanine area of the retail space and the entire parking garage.

Brown said she’s excited to take her winnings to a new and improved space.

“Oh ya most definitely! I can’t just be a regular here and not there!” ended Brown.

The plan still has to get passed by the Fresno City Council. The council will vote on the sale this Thursday.
