Fresno, CA – When we first met Maddie Mueller back in February she challenged Clovis Unified’s dress code after she was banned from wearing a school-colored “MAGA” hat on campus. Her story went viral.
On Tuesday she made another political statement.
“Today is about empowering young minds and encouraging the discouraged.”
Holding Trump and American flags, a small group of conservatives rallying outside clovis north high school. Senior Maddie Mueller spearheaded this protest after she was banned from wearing her school-colored “MAGA” hat on campus. She’s continuing to speak up as she believes her freedom of speech is being censored.
“I actually have a black hat with this writing on it and i have been told I can’t wear it. I have a black hat with a American flag on it and I’ve been told I can’t wear it and it’s sickening what’s going on.”
The rally that lasted 30-minutes did not encounter any real opposition. The Clovis Unified School District did not intervene but did say the dress code on Clovis North’s campus is very restrictive.
“Only hats that are solid, or school colors with no logos or school issued hats. A t-shirt that says MAGA or a democratic shirt is fine.”
“I was never told that. said Mueller. “I was told that I had to get every article of political clothing approved, so she lied to you on camera.”
Our original story that aired back in Febraury triggered nation-wide support and backlash. Mueller says she and her family received death threats. On Tuesday she wrote a letter to the district stating how she’s been treated.
“I was chastised for my outspoken values and incredibly not by students but staff that is still employed. I was told there would be an apology but none came.”
