Suspect shot in officer-involved shooting in Earlimart

EARLIMART, California - One suspect was hospitalized Monday morning following an officer-involved shooting in Earlimart.

The California Highway Patrol was alerted to a stolen vehicle in the area of 784 Armstrong Ave. in Earlimart around 9:15 a.m.

Officers with the Tulare County Regional Auto Theft Task Force -- which has officers from multiple agencies -- approached the suburban in a law enforcement vehicle.

When officers tried to move in, the suspects used the vehicle to ram the officers' vehicle, the Tulare County Sheriff's Office said.

Two officers -- one with CHP and the other from the Sheriff's Office -- opened fire on the driver while he was in the vehicle, the Sheriff's Office said.

The driver was taken to an area hospital. His injuries weren't life threatening.

The suspect in the passenger seat was uninjured and and placed under arrest.

Since officers from both agencies were involved in the shooting, the Porterville Police Department is coming in to investigate the officer-involved shooting.
