Championship-winning volleyball coach accused of having sex with former student

Tulare Police arrested 50-year-old Angela Webb at her home on Friday

TULARE, Calif. - After a month-long investigation, Tulare Police have arrested 50-year-old Angela Webb for having sex with a minor.

Detectives say the victim is a former student of Webb's. She's been a P.E. teacher in the Tulare Joint Union High School District for 26 years.

Angela Webb is a Tulare Union alum and a well known volleyball coach in the area but now she's accused of having sex with a minor.

From 2008 to 2013, Angela Webb led Tulare Union's volleyball team to four league titles. Webb started her coaching career in 1992 at Tulare Western, ultimately winning a Central Section championship in 1996 but on Friday morning, police arrested Webb for having sex with a minor.

"As a mother, it's devastating to hear especially in my community. It's shocking," said a Tulare mother who did not want to be identified.

She says her daughter graduated from Tulare Union two years ago. Police say a tip on an alleged relationship between Webb and a former Tulare Western student came in on June 20. Lieutenant Jerod Boatman says the victim confirmed the allegations, telling detectives the relationship lasted nearly four years. Police are asking other potential victims to come forward.

"Sometimes new names come up which leads to another interview and it could be a domino effect from there," said Boatman.

The district released a statement.

"The district takes the allegations against Mrs. Webb very seriously and is continuing to work with the Tulare Police Department as they investigate this matter," said the district.

"If this is true, oh definitely her career is done," said a mother.

The district placed Webb on leave of absence after learning of her arrest.
