Have you ever lived with mice inside your home? These pests can damage your walls, eat your food, and even carry disease.
So when CBS47 got several emails about mice inside a downtown Fresno complex for seniors, we jumped on the story.
The mice are inside the Silvercrest Fresno, which is a facility run by the Salvation Army.
One email sent to our newsroom stated, “…mice are running in the living room and even come on the beds.”
It went onto state, “I am hoping they are doing something to get rid of them, but I don’t know for sure.”
The answer is yes!
Members of the Salvation Army are working on the issue and are trying to get rid of the mice.
CBS47 Eyewitness News was given a tour of the facility. We were shown a number of traps located both inside and outside, especially by the garbage.
As for the city of Fresno’s code enforcement, spokesman Mark Standriff says, “We”ve been out there and did the inspection and after that we have to give them a few weeks to make sure they completed either repairs or the pest control options to get rid of the mice. Then we will come back and look again.”
But Salvation Army staff tell CBS47 they are not waiting for code enforcement to come up with its recommendations.
Staff say they’ve already been in touch with its pest control and are working to get rid of the mice.
In a statement sent to CBS47, the Salvation Army said, “The residents are our number one priority at The Salvation Army Silvercrest. We’ve listened to their concerns and are on top of the situation.”
Staff is now advising residents not to leave out food for their dogs and cats, because that attracts pests.
It was just a few years ago, the complex went through a major renovation.
The Salvation Army says it will take some time, but they’re taking every step necessary to eliminate the problem.
Standriff says, “From all accounts that I have gotten they’ve worked very closely not only with code enforcement, but with the tenants too.”
