The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the death of 30-year-old Timothy Shields.

Shields’ body was found in a canal near Ave 288 and Rd 156 in Farmersville on January 21st.

According to reports, Shields went missing after being hit by a car on January 19th.

Deputies say he was walking in the area with his girlfriend when he was struck; the family of Shields says he was a victim of a hit-and-run.

Shields’ girlfriend said they were on a bridge, when a car struck him, possibly knocking him into the canal.

Authorities spent the next two days searching for him. His sister, Taryn Murrieta, told us she spotted the body of her missing brother in a canal near her family’s home.

An autopsy was completed on Shields, and the cause of death is determined to be trauma to the upper torso. The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office says the actual cause of those injuries is still under investigation.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the possible hit and run accident.
