Caltrans enforcing snow chains on vehicles heading to Shaver Lake

A lot of people took advantage of the three day weekend by heading up to the snow. However Caltrans stopped numerous drivers to make sure they had their snow chains with them.

Emily Mosqueda was trying to go up to Shaver Lake with her 3-year-old daughter. She said she was shocked over the amount of snow she saw on her drive up.

“My three year old bugs to come up here,” says Mosqueda. “So, that’s why we are up here today and it’s a three day holiday so we just want to come up here and enjoy the holiday a little bit.”

Mosqueda said she was shocked that Caltrans forced her to put on snow chains to continue up north to Shaver Lake.

“This is the most snow we have ever seen and it’s amazing because we have not seen snow this low and we usually have to go up high to see the snow,” says Mosqueda. “But, today it’s amazing to come out here and see the snow very low.”

Caltrans strictly enforced chain controls and everyone had to pull over and put them on if their car was not all wheel drive or four wheel drive.

Sheri Tubbs tried to go up to Shaver Lake with her family but was stopped by Caltrans.

“We thought we would make it to Shaver without chains but no we did not,” said Tubbs.

However, she and her family made the best out of the situation.

“We do not have chains so they are not letting anybody up past this point,” said Tubbs. “So, we joined everyone else on the side of the road.”
