Tulare man, 24, killed in Oceano Dunes crash

California

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly crash at the Oceano Dunes Sunday afternoon.

The rollover crash happened around 4 p.m., according to Kevin Pearce with California State Parks. He says park rangers responded to a solo crash involving two men at “Post 5 ½ Primaries,” described as a relatively flat area of the park.

Park rangers, lifeguards, Calfire and EMS responded and pronounced the driver, Kristopher Mancebo, 24, of Tulare dead at the scene.
His passenger was treated for complaints of pain to his arm and shoulder.

His cause of death has yet to be determined, however the driver suffered “obvious head trauma as a result of the accident,” Pearce says.

Witnesses say the sand car was driving about 50 mph when for unknown reasons, the front end dropped, sending the car flipping at least three times.

Mancebo was ejected from the car.

Pearce says, although not required, the men were not wearing helmets.

The San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office responded to take over the death investigation.
