Stranger returns long lost dog to Sacramento family

FOLSOM, California (KCRA/NBC News) – A California family has reunited with their dog 14 months after he went missing from their home in Folsom.

The Shelton family adopted Teddy when he was just a few weeks old. A little while later, he somehow escaped. The family of four scoured the area, but they never found him.

On Wednesday, another family in the Sacramento area was on the lookout for their own dog, named Chance. They spotted a pup that looked just like him but turns out, it was Teddy!

Jamie was driving to the shelter, she stopped by a gas station to fill up when she saw another dog. It turned out to be her own dog, Chance.

“This kind of story is all about ‘Chance,’” Jamie said. “What are the chances that you’re in the right place at the right time?”

Jamie brought Teddy to the shelter, where she said they confirmed his identity through his microchip. Teddy was returned to his family in Folsom after 14 months.

“If you don’t believe fate, this will challenge your beliefs,” Mark Shelton said.
