Officers in Northern California rescued an animal on a local highway Tuesday, but it wasn’t a cat or dog.

Around 8:30 a.m., Officer Pereira with the California Highway Patrol received a call of a sea lion in distress on northbound Highway 101 south of the South San Francisco exit.

When Pereira arrived, the sea lion appeared healthy and uninjured.

The sea lion was taken to Peninsula SPCA for treatment.
