(KRON) — The San Francisco Police Department is investigating after a man was allegedly stabbed Friday night by another man armed with a sword outside a roller skating rink.

Scott Sweeney, a customer at the roller skating rink, told KRON4 on Saturday, the sword-wielding suspect was wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat, commonly associated with President Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.

Police say the stabbing occurred around 9:50 p.m. Friday, near Oak Street and Fillmore Street, close to the Church of 8 Wheels roller rink.

Sweeney told KRON4 him and his girlfriend had a run-in with the armed suspect just prior to the stabbing.

Sweeney says him and his girlfriend were outside a nearby convenience store when they noticed a man wearing a “MAGA” hat.

Sweeney said the man was glaring at him and his girlfriend and later yelled homophobic slurs at them.

As Sweeney was about to enter the Church of 8 Wheels, he said the suspect approached the building and brandished his sword. Sweeney and his group continued inside the roller rink, while the man stayed outside, he said.

Minutes later at 9:50 p.m., police responded to the rink for a report of a stabbing.

Leading up to the stabbing, the victim approached the suspect, according San Francisco Police Officer Robert Rueca. As the victim walked past the suspect, the suspect’s “MAGA” hat came off his head.

Police say that’s when the suspect brought out the sword and struck the victim’s hand.

Police say the suspect then fled the area on foot.

The stabbing victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police have not located the suspect or the sword.
