SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Don’t forget to set your clocks ahead, Central Valley — daylight saving time returns this weekend.

Clocks will move ahead by one hour on Sunday at 2 a.m.

In case you’re wondering where the idea for Daylight Saving Time originally came from — you can thank Benjamin Franklin. The founding father first came up with the idea in 1784.

Though the majority of U.S. states observe Daylight Saving Time — Hawaii and much of Arizona are the exception.

The U.S. territories of Guam, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and American Samoa are also exempt from the time change.

If you don’t like changing your clocks — don’t worry, China and Japan are part of a handful of countries that don’t observe DLS. As a reference, countries closest to the equator typically don’t change their clocks for Daylight Saving.
