Five dead after solo vehicle collision on Highway 99

Five people were killed Saturday afternoon when the SUV in which they were riding hit a tree on Highway 99 just south of Highway 155 in Delano.

The names of the victims were not immediately released, but the SUV was registered in Delano, according to the CHP.

The collision happened on the northbound side of the freeway at about 5:05 p.m. 

CHP confirmed Sunday three adults and two children were killed in the crash.

It was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision, the CHP said. The cause still under investigation.

The northbound side of the freeway remained partially closed near Highway 155 as of 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
