CHAMA, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico State Police say a bus driver was arrested Thursday, accused of raping a child on a school bus.

According to NMSP, 66-year-old Stephen George Meek, a bus driver for Chama Schools, is accused of raping a 7-year-old girl, who was the last person left on the bus after Meek dropped the rest of the kids off Wednesday afternoon.

Police say a witness who saw Meek pulled to the side of the road thought the bus was having mechanical issues and pulled over to help, but the bus took off. The girl later told her grandparents that Meek had kissed and touched her.

Prosecutors have filed a motion to keep Meek behind bars until trial.
