FRESNO, California — A bizarre burglary in Fresno: thieves stole tens of thousands of dollars in merchandise from Tactical and Practical Thursday morning. But, they left behind some big clues for investigators as well.
Chris Denton, the store’s owner, thinks his store got his between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. He got a rude awakening Thursday after finding out two rocks crashed through his store’s window.
Tactical and Practical is a supplier for law enforcement specialty units, like SWAT teams. It’s typically stocked with firearm and patrol accessories, as well as knives.
“I’m just surprised, honestly,” Denton said about finding out what happened. “They knew what they were looking for.”
It his 16 years owning the store, Denton never had his store broken into. He said the burglars stole from his AR 15 parts supply, specialty knife inventory and some bags.
Just by the amount of products taken, Denton believes at least three people were involved.
“[All the stuff is] heavy, by the amount they took you’re probably looking at over 250 pounds, maybe 300 pounds. You aren’t just picking that up and leaving with it,” he said.
Fresno Police are investigating the crime. Besides fingerprints, they have DNA evidence in the form of a Little Caesars pizza and a half full Gatorade — with a Vallarta employee discount sticker on it.
With no surveillance video of the crime, Denton hopes that evidence helps find the criminals.
In all, Denton believes he’s lost at least $40,000 He’s taking the hit on the chin.
“It’s not the best neighborhood in the world. Stuff like this can happen periodically, we just happen to be a victim,” he said.
Denton plans to beef up security at Tactical and Practical so this doesn’t happen again.
Police couldn’t say if there’s a strong market for what was taken.
