A crackdown on gangs as innocent children and adults are being caught in the crossfire.
Sunday night, just before 8 o’clock, a women was shot and her 4-year-old daughter was grazed in the head by a bullet. Both are ok.
But nearly two weeks ago, a 12-year-old girl was also an innocent victim of a gang shooting.
Fresno Police Deputy Chief Farmer says over the years they’ve seen a pattern of gang members striking innocent people, including children, during their gunfire battles.
and they are sending a message to all gang members: they’re coming after you.
A 4-year-old little girl, crying in pain, after being grazed in the head with a bullet Sunday night, near Nevada and 11th Street, in southeast Fresno.
Her mother was also struck, both caught in the crossfire of what police say was a gang shooting.
“unfortunately, two innocent victims were shot and could have easily been killed during this shooting,” Farmer says.
He says 15 rounds were fired at the home, where 10 people were inside, ranging in age from one to mid 80s.
“We have determined that this is gang related and we do know that a black SUV was seen leaving the scene,” Farmer says.
Last Sunday, a man watching a movie with his three children was struck in the shoulder. Police believe it was gang related as well.
Farmer says any one of those kids could have been hit by a bullet, but thankfully were not.
And nearly two weeks ago, a 12- year-old girl was shot, near Cedar and Church.
Police say her family is totally innocent, no gang affiliation.
But say a fight broke out, outside their home, between Bulldog gang members and a tagging crew.
That’s when seven bullets, police say, struck the house where they say four children were inside.
“These gang members shooting into these need to realize bullets don’t have eyes,” Farmer says.
In response to these shootings, police launched a Gang Op, and in just a week, they are seeing results.
“We made 76 felony arrests, 20 guns have been recovered, 163 probation parole searches as well as 119 misdemeanor arrests since this incident has happened,” Farmer says.
Fresno Police sending a strong message to gang members, “We’re going to do everything in our power to go after these gang members that are doing these shootings and hold them accountable.”
Police say two of the three shootings were detected by the Shot Spotter system, all are still under investigation.
