Fresno City Council Member Gary Bredefeld has taken to social media to blast the Fresno Bee, and fellow City Council members Esmeralda Soria and Miguel Arias for apologizing to progressive Democratic Representative Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez during a trip to Washington, D.C. earlier this week.
The Grizzlies ignited a national controversy when they showed a video at the mid point of a Memorial Day double header that lumped Ocasio-Cortez in with North Korean dicatator Kim Jong Un, and Fidel Castro, the late president of Cuba. The Grizzlies say the video was not thoroughly reviewed before being played between games at the double header.
During their visit with Ocasio-Cortez, Soria and Arias say they apologized to Ocasio-Cortez for the Grizzlies mishap, and extended an invitation for her to visit the Central Valley to discuss issues such as clean water, health care, and jobs. Thursday night Bredefeld sent out a tweet linking to a facebook post strongly condemning the Fresno Bee, Soria, and Arias. Bredefeld’s post reads as follows:
“Today is the 75th anniversary of D-Day, where 2500 Americans died storming beaches in France which led to the ending of WW II and the Holocaust, and returning freedom to the people throughout Europe. Our American military heroes freed the world and defeated Nazism, dictatorships, and oppression, and those defeated countries returned to Democratic governments.
How pathetic for the Bee to instead of making the anniversary of D-Day their most prominent story, they highlight two Council Members going to Washington DC to apologize to the self-proclaimed Socialist, Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, and giving her free Grizzlies merchandise. Not surprised. Socialists like getting and giving away “free” things.
In contrast to the founding principles and values of our great country, this Congresswoman promotes Socialism which has caused misery to millions of people throughout the world. She promotes the “Green New Deal” which is estimated to cost as much as 93 TRILLION dollars with each household having to pay $600,000. It’s an absurd plan that includes retrofitting existing buildings throughout the country, ultimately eliminating airplanes and “farting cows,” and guaranteeing money to those “unwilling to work.” Its as nonsensical as her not knowing the 3 branches of government, or stating the world will end in 12 years unless we enact her absurd plans.
I honor all of the sacrifices our military men and women make every day keeping us safe and defending the principles of freedom and our Constitutional Republic. Today we especially remember the “greatest generation” and the incredible sacrifices they made on June 6, 1944. I wish our local newspaper would have made their sacrifice and contributions to our freedom their top story rather than a misguided, socialist whose destructive policies would infringe on the very freedoms they fought and died for.”
Neither Soria nor Arias have responded thus far to Bredefeld’s post.
