Arrest made in shooting of UPS worker in Merced County

News

A suspect is now in custody in connection with the shooting of a UPS worker who was walking home from work on Monday.

The Merced County Sheriffs Office has identified the shooter as Jesse Padilla Jr.

The UPS worker was walking home on Cone Avenue outside Merced when he heard a gunshot and realized he had been shot in the head. The unidentified victim’s wound was minor.

Over the next few days Detectives with the Merced County Sheriff’s Office and Merced County Probation Department led a probation search at a home on Cone Avenue.

Detectives allegedly located a stolen vehicle and other items believed to be involved with the shooting.

The Merced County Sheriff’s Office STAR Team located and arrested Padilla in the 300 Block of South Parsons Avenue.

Padilla has been booked into the Merced County Jail for assault with a firearm.
