Blaze destroys Fresno home

Fresno fire investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire that tore through a northwest Fresno home.
The fire happened on the 2000 block of West Bluff Avenue.
“I am devastated for them,” says neighbor Beverly Contino, “it is horrible before christmas.”
What was a calm Tuesday afternoon quickly turned into a night of destruction.
“The house is a beautiful home in good condition, and it is gone,” she says.
Beverly Contino and other neighbors was watched as flames destroyed a northwest Fresno home.
“Who is to know where it started because it went boom,” she says.
The fire broke out at this home near the Fig Garden Golf Course around 3:45 Tuesday afternoon.
It quickly grew to a three-alarm blaze and 50 firefighters were on the attack.
“Members went inside and realized we were having a structural collapse on one side and went defensive,” says Fresno Fire Chief Kerry Donis.
The garage collapsed and the building is now a total loss, they are estimating it to cost roughly half a million dollars.
The owners, who were inside at the time noticed smoke, they made it out okay.
Fire Chief Kerri Donis says they saw had four fires just Tuesday, she says they see an increase in activity with the cold temperatures.
“We caution everyone to use safety precautions when they are lighting their fire place, when they are turning on and off their Christmas lights etc.,”
The cause of this blaze is still under investigation.
“I understand they had three pets inside the house,” says Contino.
Just like Contino, all the homeowners could do is sit and watch as their home burned.
They told us off camera also inside were their three cats, they made it out with one until firefighters walked out with another.
The owner visibly excited says they do have a place to stay.
