Atwater man intervenes in violent brawl at Disneyland

News

An Atwater man stepped-up to stop a violent brawl at Disneyland.

A family was caught on camera fighting for several minutes in the middle of Toontown over the weekend. The video shows a man and woman, who police have identified as brother and sister, arguing. The sister is seen spitting at the brother, and they begin fighting. Several other family members also started fighting, while children were crying nearby.

Matt Granado was at Toontown that evening with his family. His wife told him about the argument and he went outside, where the fight quickly escalated.

“It was insane.” I just wanted to diffuse it and make it stop, be a buffer.”

Bystanders are heard yelling ”call security” but security was not there. The fight briefly stopped. The man then went after another woman, Granado and three other men rush in to pull him away.

“It’s not right. I don’t believe anyone should be hitting a woman,” Granado said.

Security arrived on scene and the family was eventually removed from the park.

Wednesday, Granado was back in Atwater where he teaches math and coaches football and baseball at Buchach Colony High School. He also teaches his students life lessons, and the importance of respect.

“We try to teach our students and our student athletes here to be upstanding citizens,” Granado said.

Granado practices what he preaches, and hopes people learn something from the video.

A Disneyland spokesperson called the violence ”inexcusable.” The Orange County DA’s office is now reviewing the case, charges have not yet been filed.
