An arrest has been made in the KC Haggard murder case, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said Monday.

Richard Lopez, 38, was arrested in the case which stemmed from a 2015 stabbing many deemed to be a hate crime.

Haggard was reportedly transitioning from male to female at the time of her murder on July 23, 2015.

Haggard approached a male in a truck on Blackstone and Cornell avenues, and was stabbed shortly thereafter.

The crime was captured on grainy surveillance video that shows the murder taking place. It shows Haggard being stabbed, then staggering a short distance and falling on the sidewalk.

She was pronounced dead soon after. Haggard was 66 years old at the time of her murder.

Members of the local LGBT community have held a number of vigils since the murder to bring awareness to violence against members of their community.
