Students at Alta Sierra Intermediate School quickly came together to support their classmate Makai Lloren after hearing word of his tragic accident.
On January 16th Makai did a front flip on a trampoline and landed on his head severing his spinal cord and breaking his neck said his father Durbin Lloren.
According to Makai’s father he is now recovering at Valley Children’s Miracle Network and is currently paralyzed from the chest down.
Steve Pagani is the current Principal at Alta Sierra Intermediate and says he didn’t believe the news when he first heard it.
“Immediate heartache and sadness for the family,” says Pagani. “But, then immediately going into action, how can we help Makai and his family.”
Ariana Navarro sat by Makai Lloren in class. She says after hearing the news of her fellow classmate she instantly texted her friends to see what they can do.
“So, once we heard about it we all started collaborating and we wanted to obviously do something,” says Navarro. “whether it was a gofundme for him or creating a T-shirt”
“Very quickly the community rallied behind that,” says Pagani. “Our student body immediately went into action and wanted to do something to help.”
Students say they snapchat, Instagram message, and even face-time Makai as much as possible.
Raymond Leyva used to wrestle with Makai and says every win from now until the end of the season will be for him.
“We are taking it hard and it hit us,” says Leyva. “But, we are just trying to keep our head up.”
If you want to purchase a T-shirt they are $15 and you can get them at Alta Sierra Intermediate School in Clovis. Their number is (559) 327-3500.
