Lowe’s is pulling the plug on all Orchard Supply Hardware stores starting Thursday.
All 99 stores in the US are closing down leaving employees potentially without a job and many without their go-to hardware
“It’s unfortunate because its so convenient, it’s the neighborhood store,” said George Flores from Clovis.
The announcement of of Orchard Supply Hardware stores’ closing took many by surprise..
“It’s heart felt, i am not going to be happy about that,” said Sanger resident Alfred Gonzalez.
Gonzalez has been shopping at Fresno’s local OSH store for many years.
He said there are many things that set it apart from other hardware stores.
“This one is more of a smaller chain, and i like that service, i like when they come up to you, they ask you hey do you need any help, they see you looking around like you are lost they are there to help you out,” said Gonzalez.
Lowe’s, which owns Orchard Supply, is closing all stores for good starting Thursday through February 1st to help Lowes become more competitive.
Workers at a local Fresno OSH store tell us they were informed about the closure on Tuesday.
All 4,000 plus employees nationwide will be affected.
“It’s very unfortunate that all these employees are going to possibly lose their job or be transferred to other stores where there is going to be major competition,” Gonzalez added.
Some stores will have liquidation sales beginning Thursday.
The depth of the discounts remains unclear, but shoppers said they’ll be back.
“I need some stuff for the house you know a lawn mower and things like that so definitely they have stuff that we need,” said customer Jay Herr.
