TULARE COUNTY, California.- Robert Garza, a neighbor who lives right next to Sherri Telnas’s mother, came forward exclusively with our station to detail the events that took place this last Saturday.
Garza said around 4:30 a.m., 45-year-old Sherri Telnas came over to his house and asked if she and the two sons could sleep in one of Garza’s spare bedrooms.
“We had a spare bedroom so the boys and her went into the bedroom,” said Garza.
Garza said Telnas was acting strange so he went next door to the grandmother’s. Then he saw the mom run out of his home with the two sons running after her.
“And I told the Gramma, man, she went off running and let them know we are probably gonna need help to get her because gramma was explaining to me she had mental health issues and stuff,” said Garza.
Later, he said he saw Telnas running on the back of his property soaking wet. This time the boys were nowhere to be found. He told the grandmother to look around the cornfields because they could be stuck in the mud. She called him and told him she couldn’t find them. He and the grandmother continued searching and found the boys both in an irrigation ditch face down.
“You know I jumped in the water pulled them out did C and try to make sure that I could save them,” said Garza.
Garza said he did not know about Telnas’s past and would have never imagined this would have happened. From what he saw, he said it appeared Telnas was not in the right mental state.
“She wasn’t acting herself of what I know of her you know like a person that was having some type of mental issue,” said Telnas
Both boys were transported to a local hospital where the 12-year-old died, the 7-year-old is still in critical condition and was transferred to Valley Children’s Hospital.
A gofundme has been created to pay for the family’s expenses.
