MARRERO, La. – WDSU – A 9-year-old Louisiana boy was killed when a gun he was playing with accidentally discharged, striking him in the head, officials said.
Kamone Thomas, 18, was arrested in connection with the accidental shooting, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto said Thursday. Thomas faces charges of negligent homicide and obstruction of justice.
Investigators said the shooting was reported before 11 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 2000 block of Rue Racine in Marrero.
The boy had already been taken to a hospital in Jefferson Parish when deputies arrived at the residence, Lopinto said. The boy, who has not been identified, died shortly after.
Investigators said deputies questioned Thomas, the boy’s cousin, who later confessed that the boy was playing with the gun in a bedroom and when the 18-year-old tried to get the gun away from the boy, it went off, shooting the boy in the head.
Lopinto said investigators are still looking for the gun.
The 18-year-old was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.
