35-year-old man arrested for causing a disturbance and vandalizing St. John’s Cathedral

Fresno police said they responded to St. John’s Cathedral in regards to a man causing a disturbance and vandalizing the church.

Police arrived within minutes and immediately found a person matching the description at Tulare and U Streets.

Police said 35-year-old Jose Luis Renteria Hernandez admitted to throwing prayer candles at religious statutes and multiple sacred stained glass windows.

Police said Hernandez caused in excess of 25,000 dollars in damage to the exterior of the church.

Hernandez was arrested for felony vandalism and booked into the Fresno County Jail.
