MERCED, Calif. — 3 gang members are in jail tonight for the murder of a Merced man. 50-year-old Jeff Bergeron was found dead in his home in January.
After a 2 month long investigation, police believe Berjeron’s murder was a random attack at the end of a 2-day crime spree.
These 3 suspects, Louie Gonzales, Felipe Herdia, and Christopher Olvera, all Norteno gang members, are in custody facing charges for the murder of 50-year-old Jeff Bergeron.
“This case was good old fashioned police work, they were just following up with witnesses, canvassing a neighborhood and tech social media played a big role,” said Sgt. Ray Alvarez.
The murder happened in January. Bergeron was found dead in his home on Bixby way and the only thing taken was his truck.
Merced Police said this was the last crime the gang members committed after a long spree that started in downtown Merced.
“They committed 2 armed robberies, they may or may not have stolen jewelry, then moved down to downtown and committed aggravated assault,” said Alvarez.
After this, they allegedly made their way North and broke into Bergeron’s house. Investigators said they have no reason to believe Bergeron and the suspects knew one another. They believe it may have just been a random crime.
“The motive here there is going to be a gang theme, they were looking to get money, they were looking to commit crimes for the gang.”
3 suspects are at the Merced County jail on murder charges with a gang enhancement. Police are asking if you have information about the crime spree to call them.
