25th annual North American Pole Vault Championships draws crowd to Old Town Clovis

The streets of Old Town Clovis were filled with people Friday night for the 25th annual North American Pole Vault Championship.

“It’s just super exciting you know it’s in the middle of the street, that doesn’t happen very often,” said Elizabeth Funk on Team Clovis.

Athletes from teams around California and neighboring states participated in the annual event, including Team Clovis’s Brooke Tjerrild.

“I started out in gymnastics and a few of my older friends were in this so I got to come to this event when I was younger and really got into the event and still loving it today,” said Tjerrild.

The event is not only a fan favorite for families but a highlight for athletes too.

“This event is all about having fun, most of the time the fans come to you but this is our one opportunity for us to come to the fans and really interact with everyone and have a fun time,” said Tjerrild.

The Business Organization of Old Town Clovis estimates a $1.4 million economic impact from this event.
