FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) — One person was killed and two others have major injuries following a crash involving several cars on Highway 180 on Saturday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officials said the crash occurred on Highway 180 and McCall Avenue, just before 5 p.m. CHP says tire problems caused the driver of a GMC Yukon to lose control and crash into two other cars– an Audi and Ford Focus.

The female driver of the Audi, later identified as 34-year-old Amanda Smith, died at the scene. The two other drivers were taken to the hospital with major injuries.

“Witnesses stated his right rear tire lost thread and he began to lose control of the vehicle in a north easternly direction crossing the center median and head-on traffic,” said Sgt. James Del Carlo.

Investigators don’t think drugs or alcohol played a factor in this crash.
